Michael Hoffman pic toplines Dakota Fanning
The U.K.’s Ecosse Films is producing helmer Michael Hoffman pic “Girls’ Night Out,” toplining Dakota Fanning.
HanWay Films is handling international sales on the romantic fairy tale at Berlin’s European Film Market, which starts today.
It’s the second project from Hoffman (“The Last Station”) that will be unveiled at the EFM: FilmNation is shopping “Gambit,” starring Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz, which he is lensing.
“Girls’ Night Out,” inspired by true events, is penned by Trevor De Silva. It follows the teenage Princess Margaret (Fanning) and older sister Princess Elizabeth, who are allowed out from Buckingham Palace for one night to join in the Victory in Europe celebrations that marked the end of WWII in Europe.
Casting for Princess Elizabeth will be announced shortly. Pic, which begins lensing at the end of the year, is produced by Ecosse’s Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae, who have a longstanding relationship with HanWay.
The two companies collaborated on “Brideshead Revisited,” “Becoming Jane,” “Nowhere Boy” and Andrea Arnold’s upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.”
HanWay’s Berlin Film Festival slate includes David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Mind,” produced by Jeremy Thomas; Wim Wenders’ “Pina,” which is screening out of competition; Kevin Macdonald and Ridley Scott’s Sundance debut “Life in a Day,” which screens in the Panorama section; Steve McQueen’s second directorial effort, “Shame,” toplining Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan; and Arnold’s “Wuthering Heights.” [Source]
