Dakota Fanning ‘Acting is All I Know’

Dakota Fanning says she would be lost if she didn’t make it as a successful movie star — because she doesn’t know how to do “anything else” other than act.

The starlet says she feels her most comfortable when she’s on screen. “I’ve realized that I don’t know how to do anything else,” she said. “Acting is the only thing I feel most myself.”

Dakota also admitted she’s “really nervous” about learning how to drive. “I have my permit to drive but I am only just starting out driving,” she said. “I’m really nervous about it. I can drive along the flats now but not busy roads or the freeway. I have a long way to go before I’m brave enough for that.” [Source]

Dakota Fanning on Choosing Roles: ‘I’ve Always Wanted To Do What Was Right For My Age’

She made her film debut at the age of 6 alongside Sean Penn in the drama I Am Sam, and appeared all grown-up earlier this year with Kristen Stewart in the 70’s punk-rock epic The Runaways, but Dakota Fanning insists she is still taking her time when it comes to choosing adult movie roles.

“When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old,” Fanning says in the August issue of Marie Claire, on stands now. “I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.'”

With a busy year ahead, including finishing up high school at North Hollywood’s prestigious Campbell Hall as well as wrapping the final two Twilight films, Fanning is looking forward to the future, but still enjoying the present. “As you get older, there’s so much more that you can do in films,” she says. “I’ve never wanted to rush that; I’ve always wanted to do what’s right for my age, but as you approach 18, a whole new world opens up to you as an actor, and I really look forward to that.”

Apart from the Twilight films, Dakota reportedly has two other projects in the works. [Source]

Dakota’s Fanning the flame

Hello, is this the Dakota Fanning we have all come to know and love?

Yes … and no. But one thing is certain – our little Dakota is all grown up.

“I felt so lucky I was asked to be in the film because I know a lot of people still think of me as younger,” Fanning says.

“They have watched me grow up since I was 6 (opposite Sean Penn) in I Am Sam.

“So to be able to do this role was really important to me.”

Fanning, 16, who warmed hearts in films such as I Am Sam and The Secret Lives of Bees, morphs into uber rock chick Cherie Currie in the new film The Runaways.

The ambitious saga chronicles the rise of the famed girl band of the same name and, eventually, the fall of Currie, the band’s lead crooner, who was caught in an avalanche of fame alongside Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Sandy West and Jackie Fox in the mid-1970s.

Dakota Fanning on Flare Cover

Twilight Eclipse is ruling the weekend, and while usually that means a focus on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, we can’t forget that these films actually have some proven commodities in them, and one of them is Dakota Fanning who already in her young career/life has shared screens and been directed by some of the biggest names in the business. Flare is a Canadian fashion magazine and you’ll find Dakota on the August cover.

Fanning of course is ‘Jane’, a member of the Volturi in the Twilight Saga. She will return in the next chapter of Twilight, Breaking Dawn, which hits theaters (the first half) in November 2011, and is directed by Academy Award winner, Bill Condon. [Source]

Dakota Fanning: Marie Claire Cutie

Dakota Fanning: All Grown Up

She talks to Tom Cruise regularly. Sean Penn visits her on set. And her first grown-up on-screen kiss is now behind her. Dakota Fanning is definitely not a little kid anymore.

The dress code at Campbell Hall, the private Episcopal school in North Hollywood, California, once attended by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and now by Dakota Fanning and her little sister, Elle, is strict: khaki skirt, shorts, or trousers, white collared shirt, navy sweater, closed-toed shoes. “You could actually wear this,” says the elder Fanning — wide-set, frank blue eyes; fair hair; milk-white skin; and the wispy limbs of a John Currin painting — flouncing her skirt, a cream-colored silk pouf, and in the process gaily jangles a wristful of bangles. We are sitting opposite each other in a quiet booth at the Sunset Tower Hotel, in Los Angeles. Her skirt might be passable, I think, but that little distressed white cotton tank with the bra peeking out could be grounds for detention. Ditto the 5-inch, brown Marni wedge sandals that were a present for her 16th birthday, in February, and that add significantly to her petite, not-quite-5-foot-4 frame.
